About Me

  • Hello! Welcome and Thank You for stopping by my blog! Here, I share a bit about how I Live, what makes me Laugh, what I Love and things I Create! I am a chemist by training (I have a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry), but instead of mixing up chemicals in a lab, I spend my days mixing up fabrics to create lovely clothing and accessories! When my daughter was born, my desire to climb the corporate ladder was succumbed by my desire to mother, so I hung up my labcoat and resigned from my job. I miss my days in the lab, but I am thoroughly enjoying my new job as a pattern and clothing designer and maker of lovely things! I am launched a new line of contemporary sewing and quilting patterns and I run an online fabric shop as well as a small online boutique where I sell my handmade goods. Here in this space, I share bits of my days, things I love and of course talk way too much about fabric and design.

Biography

My name is Sheree and I love to Live...Love...Laugh...Create! I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, chemist, seamstress and clothing designer for my company SLS Designs, as well as a wanna-be chef and knitter. I started out my professional career as a senior staff chemist at a leading chemical company, but after the birth of my daughter, I decided to turn in the lab coat and goggles and stay home to raise her. I have loved every minute of it! In an attempt to continue to feed my desire to create things, to satisfy that inner experimental chemist in me, I started sewing children's clothes. I have been sewing for many years--I started making my own clothes when I was 12. But I'd never made children's clothes. But with my daughter as my inspiration, by company, SLS Designs was born. I love to keep busy and I love original and unique things. When I am not with my family, you can usually find me in my sewing room. It is a big room and filled with all my treasures! I am a total fabric hoarder---my collection rivals most quilt shops! And I also collect vintage patterns, buttons and trims. I love to make beautiful clothes that compliment children instead of overshadowing them. I love vintage and retro influences in childrens clothes and enjoy mixing vintage treasures with modern materials. My style is ecletic, happy, vintage with a modern twist! I also design and make items for ladies, boys and items for the home as well.

My family and I moved from New York State to Dusseldorf, Germany along the beautiful Rhine River back in June 2006. It was a huge move, but one we have embraced and loved. We are finally starting to settle in and have been enjoying alot of travel throughout Europe. My husband happens to be German, so that has helped lots! And we get to spend alot more time with the German side of the family while we are here as well. And the European fabrics are just delicious, so my sewing machine and I are quite happy to be here as well!

I hope you enjoy my little blog, as I share with you how I Live, Love, Laugh, Create!
